techniques
Massage and bodywork encompass many techniques from deep manual work on the soft tissue of the body to light or non-touch forms of therapy. The intent of the therapist is to aid in healing for specific conditions or generalized relaxation. Massage aids in the release and relaxation of restrictions and knots in the muscles, tendons and fascia using different pressures and strokes. It increases circulation of the blood and lymph by the physical movement of the body through the various strokes. Generalized relaxation occurs as well as feelings of well-being, increased mental alertness and clarity. Restrictions in the body can cause imbalances creating stress patterns resulting in pain or various musculoskeletal issues. Stress affects the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of a person so all in all massage therapy can be a profound experience.
At Soulfood Healing, the main style of treatment used is John F. Barnes Myofascial Release because of the amazing results on people with pain issues. Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage are utilized as well for overall soreness, relaxation and detoxification. CranioSacral Therapy and Reiki are also a part of my toolbox. After a thorough assessment we will discuss which treatment option (or combination) is appropriate for your individual needs.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a very effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
Fascia is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone. It is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs and skeletal structures of the body. Muscle and fascia unite to form the myofascial system. The fascia can be manipulated, directly or indirectly, allowing the connective tissue fibers to reorganize themselves in a more flexible, functional fashion. Injuries, stress, inflammation, surgery, trauma and poor posture can result in fascial restrictions. The goal of MFR is to release the fascial restrictions and restore its tissue health.
CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating, balancing and enhancing the functioning of the craniosacral system – which comprises of the bones, nerves, fluids, and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area. The membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a very light touch, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
CST assists the body’s natural healing processes and is effective for a wide range of problems including physical aches and pains, chronic and acute diseases, as well as emotional and psychological imbalances. CST promotes the development of health, vitality and general well-being in the body, mind and emotions. It can be especially useful in treating headaches, eye and ear problems, jaw problems, whiplash, and back pain.
Reiki
Reiki is thought to promote healing through the “laying on of hands” in order to massage the invisible “life force energy” that lies within all living creatures. Reiki is the art of channeling the body’s life force through energy healing vibrations in order to restore imbalances, remove energy blockers, and realign a person’s physical, emotional, or spiritual harmony within. Reiki therapy can be performed both with hands on or off of the body. Many people report feeling more relaxed, happier, energetic, and aligned after a Reiki session, almost as if they had given their inner batteries a jump-start.
